Extreme Networks and NSP complete Manukau Institute of Technology rollout

Extreme Networks and platinum partner NSP have completed a new network infrastructure deployment for Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT).

San Jose-based Extreme Networks, has provided MIT with a new network environment from the datacentre to the networking edge, along with network management, security and visibility to support 20,000 students and staff spread across nine Auckland campuses.

“We needed a networking partner that could provide us with a comprehensive, easy-to-manage network hardware solution,” said Russell Smith, systems manager ICTS at MIT.

The network can now be managed from multiple locations with a single, vendor-agnostic tool.

“Extreme’s network management solution has dramatically exceeded our expectations, and has allowed our team to focus on delivering a more strategic level of support to our business users,” Smith said.

A unique challenge was the diversity of sites, applications and learning environments MIT supports, from traditional teacher-led classrooms to full bridge and engine room simulators run by the New Zealand Maritime School for marine engineering students.

“MIT came to us with a desire to remake their network into a powerful asset that would help drive and support their educational mission in the years ahead,” said Chris Georgellis, managing director of Extreme Networks A/NZ.

The MIT team placed great importance on flexibility and simplifying their network management environment for IT and system administrators, he said.

The MIT network environment includes; Extreme’s Summit X670-G2 series 10-gigabit core ethernet switches, X440-G2-PoE for policy-enabled edge switching, X450-G2 for edge switching as well as the management and access control software.
